and i don't want the world to see me

If you took the time to know the wizard before the wolf, though, you would find yourself surprised at how very ill-fitting the term Dark Creature is for this man. This humble, modest and kind man, with a side of unadulterated mischief that is undeniably Moony, and leaves one in no doubt as to why he was once a Marauder. Sweet, calm, forgiving and gentle, he's the Professor you adored in school, the person in your life you take for granted; the one who is always there with a soft word and a reasonable explanation for everything, a cup of tea (or whatever you fancy) and an unmissable smile in his eyes even as his countenance stays firm...and yet an entirely missable sadness to those very same eyes even when his mouth curves with that very same smile. He's the friend, in short, that is there whenever you need him, however you need him, and yet he's the friend that nobody ever asks after, or truly talks to.
sometimes the time just slips away
and you're left with yesterday, left with the memories
but i, i'll always think of you and smile
and be happy for the time i had you with me

Friends. Remus had friends. He had the best friends in the world - the Marauders. Lily. The Prewett brothers. Then he lost them all. Each and every single one of them. Because of this, and obviously, because of his lycanthropy, Remus struggles to make true friends. Of course, the value of friendship for him is immeasurable, and he's usually so delighted at being liked that he's more than happy to strike up an amiable relationship with someone. That's friendship, and he's got those, particularly in the Order, and with some of his students. Genuine, deep, no-masks-to-hide-behind friendship, though, is something he tries to keep at arm's length these days, and as a result, he can really only count the number of true friends, the people who really know him, on one hand. Still, anyone he gets along well with could and would fall into this category.
we watch our world fall apart
tell me what good is winning when you lose your heart?
So brother, my brother, tell me what we're fighting for
we've got to end this war

Enemies. Remus has a lot of these. Half the wizarding world, really, purely because he's a werewolf. Not that he'd quite call them enemies, either, unless their name is say...Dolores Umbridge; he's sadly accepting of the fact that people are simply prejudiced, and will always view him as such. Of course, there's an ex-student here and there that might try to make his life hard if they wanted to, but as it's Remus of the shades of grey, he's not about to call a child he once taught an enemy. When it comes to real enemies, though...that's far more definitive. Like most of the Order of the Phoenix, each and every member of Voldemort's army comes under the title of 'enemy'. For Remus, though, there's more than one member of the Dark side that he could legitimately claim as an enemy. Fenrir Greyback, for one, and that speaks for itself. Bellatrix Lestrange would certainly be another, as much for her murder of Sirius and her desire to murder Tonks as for her own homicidal disdain towards halfbreeds such as himself. Antonin Dolohov would no doubt like to see him dead, considering the part he played in the man's initial capture and sentence to Azkaban for the murder of the Prewett brothers. Severus Snape too rates on this list these days, despite Remus' attempts to remain cordial over the years, for his murder of Dumbledore.
i could spend my life in this sweet surrender
i could stay lost in this moment forever
'cause every moment spent with you
is a moment i treasure

Lovers.Remus is not, despite what Padfoot might have told you, an innocent. He's still a man, after all. He's had lovers in the past. He's never held onto them for long, is all. Reasons being pretty obvious (to him anyway); they've either been strictly casual (if and when he actually had time for that); he's been too afraid to tell them he's a werewolf, or they found out he was a werewolf and promptly ran off in the other direction. Of course, that leaves it fairly open for any encounters he might have had in the past, though as he's a private, reticient man, such things are best kept quiet. Because of this too, and obviously, because of his own tendency to shield his heart from prejudice, Remus has never actually been in love. Or, well, he'd never actually been in love. Not until recently. And for a brief time, it was a damned wonderful, glorious thing...but these days, he's wondered more than once if the pain is really worth the pleasure. Even if he's causing a lot of the pain himself...he's doing it for the good of everyone in the end. Well, he's trying to convince himself that he is, anyway.
