Hair: Hermione sports a mane of long, bushy brown hair occasionally tied in a plait to keep it from her face when she’s studying. She never wasted time styling the wild nest with the exception of the Yule Ball. In the face of this event Hermione used great care in fixing her hair, resorting to Sleekeazy’s Hair Potion; she received many compliments that night and the result was admired by most. In spite of the positive and flattering feedback, she didn’t repeat the experiment seeing how it was too much work and she’d rather be admired for who she is and not for what her hair looks like.
Eyes: Brown eyes.
Height/Weight: 5'4"
Distinguishing Marks: Earlobes pierced. She used to have rather large front teeth up until her third year but she took advantage of a small accident to have Madame Pomfrey shrink them past their normal size.
Build: Hermione is quite slender.
Style: Hermione favors simple and comfortable outfits; her clothing items are never flashy or eye-catching, she prefers articles of sober elegance and subtle class, feminine and practical.

Likes:
°Hogwarts: even before she set foot on the grounds, Hermione Granger knew everything ever written about the school she was so eager to join.
°Knowledge: often considered an insufferable know-it-all, Hermione thirsts for knowledge above it all. It’s a resource that has never failed her and that has helped her throughout her life, giving her the means to sort out tricky situations and to answer even the most complicated questions in class. It has never let her down and she relies on the information she memorized throughout the years to pass her exams and survive the predicaments she, Harry and Ron often find themselves in.
°Ronald Weasley: Hermione doesn’t merely like Ron as a best friend, she actually fancies him. By sixth year she has come to terms with her feelings for the ginger-head, mostly, but her pride and his thick attitude and insecurities are still in the way of their romance. They grew up together, along with Harry, and they’ve had their ups and downs, almost unable to have a conversation without bickering over trivial matters but never the less, they always got over it. Ron is the only person able to rile up Hermione to the point of rendering her speechless, many times she has been too outraged and indignant, not to mention hurt, to keep on arguing and has been known to storm off and give him the silent treatment for days only to overcome the issue in the end, often thanks to Harry.
°Dumbledore’s Army: one of Hermione’s acts of rebellion born from outrage at Umbridge’s theoretical approach and from the fear of failing her OWLs and being unprepared to face the enemies; Hermione’s brilliant mind conceived this organization to allow any student interested in practicing Defensive Spells to do so, she considers it one of her best ideas to this day, along with the charmed galleons used as means to communicate. It has been of vital importance and the spells she had perfected and learned thanks to Harry’s teaching have helped her pass her OWLs and survive the Battle in the Department of Mysteries, as well as created a group of loyal friends willing to fight beside the Trio.
°S.P.E.W: Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare, it was founded by Hermione after seeing the mistreatment and injustice house-elves have to bear, appalled by their working conditions and finding the abusive way most wizards treat them cruel and completely unacceptable. She is very passionate about it and has tried -unsuccessfully- to free their kind despite the creatures’ utter horror at the prospect, dedicating her time and energy to the cause: she spent nights knitting misshapen hats later concealed under rubbish to trick the house-elves into freedom, even requesting Ron and Harry’s rueful help to reach her goal. She stands by her opinion on the matter and attempts to stir the collective social conscience in the hopes to achieve rights, such as a salary and an acceptable treatment, for house-elves.
°Crookshanks: disliked by most, this half-kneazle cat is alike its owner. Its wild fur could be compared to Hermione’s bushy hair, they share a sharp mind and a bossy, independent attitude. It’s no wonder Hermione likes Crookshanks so much, even though these qualities arose only later. It was compassion that moved Hermione to buy the grumpy cat no one wanted, deeming it misunderstood and defending it fiercely from the insults Ron threw its way.
°Harry Potter: not only a best friend but the closest figure to a brother Hermione has ever had, she cares and worries about him a great deal. Their friendship has often been mistaken for more, rumors traveling wildly around the castle but the two have always loved each other like siblings. Hermione has faith in him and his abilities, she has stood by his side with Ron since the day they met on the Hogwarts Express, helping him out and offering a shoulder to lean on, as well as words of advice. She looks out for her extraordinary friend and tries to make him see reason when he often acts on inklings, opposing her logical thinking to his intuitive nature.
°Ginny Weasley: the ginger-head became Hermione’s best female friend during the times the two shared a room at the Burrow, growing closer and solidifying their friendship. Hermione doesn’t really rely on Ginny and confide in her as much as Ginny does, preferring to sort out her problems on her own and being reluctant to ask for help, she’d much rather give it. She has advised Ginny more than once, especially when it came to her crush on Harry and while she admires her friend, she isn’t afraid to stand up to her if she reckons the young Weasley is wrong.
°Neville Longbottom: a dear friend Hermione tries her hardest to encourage and help patiently, seeing the potential in him and wanting to build his confidence. She trusts the soulful boy and knows she can rely on him, having fought side by side during the battle in the Department of Mysteries and knowing his family history.
°Luna Lovegood: a somewhat exasperating person Hermione has grown fond of; the blonde believes in everything that can’t be proved and opposes her odd beliefs to Hermione’s factual knowledge, sometimes driving the brunette up the wall. None the less, Hermione appreciates the Ravenclaw’s loyalty and her aid, having gotten used to her eccentric and bizarre ways.
°The Weasleys and the Burrow: a second family Hermione has shared many a holiday with under the roof of their cozy, crowded but welcoming house.
°Remus Lupin: the only good Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher they have ever had, an honorable man Hermione admires for his compassion, dignity and morals.
°Albus Dumbledore: Hermione read about the Headmaster soon after she learned she was a witch and cracked open “Hogwarts, a history”. She respects the man’s immense power and seemingly infinite wisdom.
°Minerva McGonagall: it’s safe to say that the Head of Gryffindor is Hermione’s favorite professor. The woman has appreciated Hermione’s work and talent from the very first lesson and has encouraged her studies, even granting her a Time-Turner to attend all of her classes during third year.
°Rubeus Hagrid: despite disapproving of his tendency to take in dangerous, often illegal creatures Hermione has grown close to Hagrid and supported him throughout the years, working on a defence for Buckbeak and trying to make the half-giant see sense when he was too stubborn to act in his own interest under Umbridge’s regimen, legitimately afraid his lessons would get him fired.
°The perfume of fresh cut grass and new parchment.
°Providing the correct answer and being right: Hermione likes having all the correct answers and enlightening –read: correcting- her school mates. She doesn’t only like being right, she needs to be right because of her proud nature and of the necessity to prove herself.
°Her family: she loves her parents dearly and is grateful for how accepting of the Wizarding World they have been, sharing with them as much as she could until the return of Lord Voldemort, after which Hermione started to fear for their well-being.
°The Library: “when in doubt, go to the Library” could very well be Hermione’s motto. The Library is Hermione’s favourite place in the whole Castle, she can often be found there surrounded by tomes and rolls of parchments, nose deep into the yellow pages of an old book, intent on learning and memorizing. She holds the strong belief that anything can be found in the Library and the information it contains is the key to solving every problem and mystery. The welcoming aisles, the square tables, the brimful shelves and even the loud hiss of Madam Pince make Hermione feel at home.
°Being a Prefect: Hermione is very proud of the prefect badge she wears and is acutely aware of the responsibility that has been assigned to her, hell-bent on ensuring everyone – her friends included – are respecting the school rules.
°”Hogwarts, a History”: the very first book Hermione has read about the Wizarding World. It holds a sentimental value, she knows every page by heart.
Dislikes:
°Lord Voldemort: Hermione learned about his existence before she began attending Hogwarts, finding the information in the books she had lay her hands on. Since her first year, Hermione has supported Harry in his battle against the Dark Lord, verifying that the threat most thought gone was still lurking out of sight; she has stood by Harry’s side when he claimed You-Know-Who was back, and has defended him from the insults the Daily Prophet, and its believers, spat out. Now more than ever it is evident that Harry was right all along and in the face of danger, Hermione is ready and willing to help bring him to his downfall.
°Rita Skeeter: a foul woman Hermione deeply despises. The acid green quill the alleged journalist enchanted spread false rumors about her and her friends, stirring Hermione’s outrage and anger - anger on which she acted. Hermione became obsessed with getting back at Rita Skeeter and finally figured out how the woman got all her information, realizing she was an unregistered animagus and catching her whilst she was eavesdropping in the form of a cockroach. A very smug Hermione blackmailed her so that she’d stop writing otherwise her secret would be revealed and shed be in great trouble with the law.
°Lavender Brown: as a female, Hermione has noticed the attention Lavender seems to be giving Ron lately and she finds herself exasperated and slightly annoyed with it, although she would never admit it out loud.
°Fleur Delacour: Hermione has disliked her since the French witch set foot at Hogwarts and started criticizing the school methods and nearly everything in sight. Of course the fact that Ron seems to be unable to tear his gaze off of the half-Veela has stung Hermione and fueled the dislike.
°Severus Snape: even though Hermione didn’t outright hate Professor Snape like Harry and Ron did, she disliked the favoritism he showed towards Slytherin and the ease with which he deducted points from Gryffindor for no real reasons, often ignoring her raised hand and her correct answers, even mocking her on occasion.
°Pansy Parkinson: a petty Slytherin that more than once mocked Hermione for being a muggle-born and for her academically driven nature, not succeeding in her attempts seeing how Hermione ignored most of her snide comments, getting only slightly aggravated on occasion.
°Dolores Umbridge: a foul, sadistic self-proclaimed teacher Hermione hated with all her being. The Gryffindor was one of the first to pick up on Umbridge’s real intentions and the old gargoyle was the reason Dumbledore’s Army crossed Hermione’s mind. For the first time ever, Hermione challenged a teacher, not as openly as Harry of course, preferring to undermine her secretly and taking great satisfaction in succeeding in her intent.
°Abuse of power.
°Elitism.
°Cruelty.
°Breaking the rules unless necessary.
°Draco Malfoy: a nasty, arrogant, cowardly Slytherin who mocked Hermione by calling her a Mud-blood, managing to get to her with the use of said word during second year. She tends to ignore Malfoy, occasionally snapping back at him and even slapping him once. The slimy git disgusts Hermione most of the time with his elitist and bullying ways, his snide comments directed at her two best-friends and the prefect badge he doesn’t deserve gleaming on his robes.
°Divination: a subject Hermione finds ridiculous to say the least as it is unfounded and Professor Trewlaney's predictions are a bunch of anxiety-inducing guesses and lies.
°Flying: while Hermione isn't afraid of flying, she isn't too fond of it due to the fact that it's one of the few things she isn't good at.
Strengths:
°Determination
°Intelligence
°Dedication
°Concentration
°Logic
°Quick-thinking
°Compassion
°Social conscience
°Bravery
°Loyalty
°Duelling
°Non-verbal magic
°School-work
Weaknesses:
°Skepticism
°Opinionated and argumentative nature
°Susceptibility
°Pride
°Over-achieving
°Jealousy
°Stubbornness
°Anxiety
Best Memory: Either the moment she received her letter - a moment that changed her life; or when Ron and Harry saved her from the mountain troll, the moment their friendship began.
Mirror of Erised: If Hermione was to look in the mirror of Erised the reflection would show the Gryffindor wearing the Head Girl badge as a symbol of her academic success, surrounded by her friends -which means they're all safe and there no threats - and holding Ron's hand.
Patronus: Otter. The Patronus Charm is the only spell Hermione has been known to have trouble performing.
Boggart: When faced with a boggart the vile creature will take the shape of Professor McGonagall and tell Hermione she has failed all her classes. Her greatest fear is failure.
Dementor: Being called a filthy mudblood during second year.
Veritaserum: She's in love with Ronald Weasley.
Personality:
Determined, hard-working and focused Hermione is an excellent student, she has a great love for knowledge and could spend hours on end with her nose happily stuck in a book. This thirst for information isn’t only the result of her curiosity and of her will to achieve good marks; Hermione feels the need to prove herself, and yes, to outdo her classmates as well. She likes her facts and being able to provide a correct answer, she is very collected and in control. The negative view some hold of Muggle-Borns may have strengthened Hermione’s over-achieving inclination. The young woman is tenacious, opinionated and argumentative, she always stands her ground and will try to make you see the light if you’re in the wrong. Due to the fact that she is rather used to being right and confides in factual knowledge, she can be very skeptical in the face of dubious, unproven concepts. Including the absurd creatures Luna strongly believes in. She finds ignorance and refusal to accept the correct position rather frustrating and on occasion aggravating. She is very logical and will believe only what is rational and proved to be existing.
Hermione has a tendency to be rather blunt with her opinions, not always the most tactful when it comes to expressing her stand –especially in the first years she spent at Hogwarts- but nonetheless, she is very compassionate and particularly sensitive towards those who are mistreated and at disadvantage. Her social conscience is outstanding, she is one of the few who act on it – even when the creatures she is trying to help REALLY feel they don’t need it but Hermione is somewhat bossy and sometimes holds the wrong belief of knowing what is right or best for everyone. She is always willing to help her friends – and Ronald needs to understand that “helping” doesn’t mean letting him copy her homework- whether it is for school work or for personal problems, although Hermione has been known to keep her nose out of other people’s business and safely tucked in a book. She isn’t prying but being very observant, she often feels she doesn’t need to ask and she doesn’t want to intrude on one’s privacy. She will, though, make a comment in passing and offer words of advice if requested. If there’s something Hermione prefers to keep out of is her friends’ love lives, the only person she is more open about it with is Ginny.
One of Hermione’s greatest flaws is pride, she would rather bath in bubotuber pus than admit she is wrong. She is very dignified, and when her pride is hurt or someone tries to get to her she turns to her superior tone and manners. She can be a bit snotty from time to time, over-sensitive – usually as a consequence of Ron’s accidental insults- but over all Hermione is a very supportive friend. Her level-headedness helps keep things in perspective for Harry and she will dedicate all of her time and energy to help those she cares about, she is very devoted to what she commits to. Compared to her first years at Hogwarts, Hermione is less stuck-up and has even broken the school rules a few times. Her priorities have evidently changed, and while academic success still makes the top of the list it is outflanked by the affection she feels for Harry and Ron and the cause they’re fighting for. She cares a great deal for her two best-friends –more than cares for one…- and she often worries about Harry. She has also recently found out that she can be prey to the sting of jealousy, although she would never admit it out loud and will deny it fiercely if asked. She hardly admits it to herself, finding jealousy to be a petty emotion beneath her

History:
Hermione is the beloved daughter of Eleanor and Richard Granger, muggles and dentists. She led an ordinary life up until the moment she turned eleven, when a letter changed her view on the world. She was revealed to be a witch and invited to join a Wizarding School, Hogwarts. At first the girl was skeptical, she even thought the letter was a prank but then, when it was proved it was definitely real she was excited beyond belief. She embraced her magic fully and was eager to learn and join the Wizarding Community, so eager that on the trip to Diagon Alley to buy the school supplies required she purchased more than the books that were on the list. By the time Hermione boarded the Hogwarts Express, at almost twelve years old, she knew every page of every textbook by heart, all the notions neatly carved in her memory. Wishing to be up to par and make a good impression, knowing that being a Muggle-born put her at disadvantage compared with those who had been raised as wizards and had a decade of magical knowledge on her, she applied herself even before the school year started, not only memorizing the books they would use during the year but dedicating her time to extra readings. She was psyched to be part of this amazing world and she wanted to know as much as possible about it.
On September 1st 1991 an anxious but eager Hermione boarded the Hogwarts Express – which looked exactly like it had been drawn in “Hogwarts, A History”- and during the journey to the school she met those who would later become her best friends. The first friend she met though was a teary boy who had lost his pet toad – Neville Longbottom. Hermione offered her help and in the quest to find the toad she knocked on the door of the compartment shared by Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley. She didn’t make a great first impression, although at the time she didn’t notice. The boys, especially Ron, found her attitude aggravating and snotty. An impression that she proved to be right in the months that followed, as she used to follow the two around the school to make sure they didn’t break any rules, effectively getting on their nerves and leading Ron to make unkind comments on her – comments that Hermione overheard and that hurt her feelings. This situation was what trigger the event that brought the trio together. Unaware of a mountain troll trudging the halls of the Castle Hermione hid in a bathroom weeping instead of keeping to the safety of the Common Room; Harry and Ron, noticing her absence went to look for her but the troll beat them to it. They found her just in time and managed to save her, an incredible feat – a feat for which the faculty was angered as they were supposed to be in their House. At this point Hermione, to spare the boys certain detention if not worse, took the fall. It was her way to express her gratefulness, something the two Gryffindors appreciated greatly. From that moment on, their friendship kept on growing and the trio became inseparable. A Professor’s robes on fire, a dragon egg and a three-headed dog later the trio faced their first real adventure. With the help of Hermione and Ron, Harry managed to fulfill the challenges that preceded the place where the Philosopher Stone was hidden –so to speak. Thanks to their heroic gestures, including Neville’s attempt to stop them from losing their House more points, they were awarded the House Cup.
Second year brought new challenges and surprises, none of them pleasant. Hermione was unkindly introduced to the existence of the insult “Mudblood” by Draco Malfoy, a term that wounded her feelings severely at the time despite the fierce defense of her house-mates, including Ron’s backfired spell. The young girl was disheartened and made to feel inferior, even ashamed but that was Malfoy’s intention and as Hagrid and her friends reminded her she was far more talented and clever than the vicious Slytherin. At only thirteen years old Hermione rationalized the situation and despite recognizing that the insult was unfounded she still felt pushed to try even harder and prove her skills as a witch. As a witch she also was unable to ignore the charming smile of the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor: Gilderoy Lockhart. Being the bookworm she is, Hermione had read all his books and was the only one to score a perfect grade on the quiz he handed out – a quiz about himself. Hermione was quite proud of being the only one who remembered the man’s favourite color was lilac, although that wasn’t too hard to guess considering the pastel colors of his robes. Of course she would later be ashamed of the silly crush she had on the professor when it turned out he was a coward and a fraud. Most unsettling of all though was the opening of the Chamber of Secrets, a threat that felt more menacing to her seeing her blood-status and she applied herself to figure out what was the monster that had been freed, coming to the realization just in time and saving her own life thanks to her safety measures, fortunately she only saw the reflection of the Basilisk in the mirror which petrified her but at least she was still alive. The information she had scribbled down on a piece of parchment was of vital importance to Harry to understand the voices he had been hearing during the year - a year during which he had been suspected of being the heir of Salazar Slytherin and the one who unleashed the monster mostly due to the revelation of his ability to speak parseltongue. When Harry proposed the theory that Malfoy could be the heir of Slytherin, Hermione investigated further, even stealing ingredients from Snape’s personal storeroom and brewing Polyjuice Potion in the hopes of obtaining a confession from Malfoy, which did not happen. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to take part to the mission because a small incident occurred, the hair Hermione used didn’t belong to Millicent Bulstrode as she had thought but to the Slytherin’s cat. Horrified, she had to spend several weeks in the Hospital Wing before getting rid of the fur and the tail she had grown. Needless to say, it was rather embarrassing. All in all, Hermione spent quite some time in the Hospital Wing during her second year, and she was lucky Professor Sprout could produce a Mandrake Restorative Draught. Once she was cured, Hermione learned what her friends had done and was immensely proud of them whilst she was slightly disappointed with Dumbledore, who had decided to cancel the end of the year exams. Needless to say, she was the only one feeling that way.
Third year was quite dramatic. The friendship with both Ron and Harry was tried by the adoption of grumpy cat - which according to Ron had eaten Scabbers- and by the confiscation of Harry’s newly acquired firebolt as a consequence of Hermione informing Professor McGonagall of its suspicious origin. Of course Hermione had the best intentions at heart, she only wanted to make sure the broomstick was safe and that it didn’t come, as she suspected, from Sirius Black, a formidable follower of You-Know-Who who had just broken out of Azkaban and was after Harry. Dementors glided just outside the school walls, their gloomy presence a reminder of the danger lurking out there. The wedge between the friends seemed to be growing but their issues were overcome or at least put aside as more important predicaments arose, such as the condemnation of Buckbeak and Harry’s Godfather’s live at stake. The hippogriff had been condemn after it “attacked” Malfoy and despite the defense Hermione had prepared, Lucius Malfoy’s influence on the committee ensured the creature would be executed, to Draco’s delight and Hermione’s outrage – outrage that broke the surface in the form of a sonorous slap to the Slytherin’s face – a memory Harry and Ron still cherish today. Hermione had been granted an incredible privilege that year, she had been given a Time-Turner to allow her to attend all of her classes –although after a mere Divination lesson she realized she could drop one subject at least- and she used it with Harry to ensure both deaths were avoided. They were successful and during their adventure new information came up. Of course one piece of information wasn’t new to Hermione, she had already figured out that Professor Remus Lupin, the only good DADA teacher they had ever had, was a werewolf but she hadn’t seen the connection with Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew, let alone imagined that Scabbers was actually Wormtail. Maybe it would have been better if Crookshanks had eaten it after all.
The summer between third and fourth year was partially spent at the Burrow, where Hermione shared a room with Ginny and grew closer to her. She attended the Quidditch World Cup with the Weasleys and Harry, and definitely saw much more than she thought she would. Their first encounter with Death Eaters happened that night, frightening them all and once more bringing them to the awareness that You-Know-Who wasn’t a distant memory as most wizards liked to think. By the end of the year he definitely wasn’t. After seeing how mistreated Winky had been Hermione started up an organization to promote elfish welfare, appalled by the elves’ working conditions and by how cruel most wizards were to them. She tried to drag Ron and Harry into it quite unsuccessfully, especially seeing the event that occurred in 1994. The Triwizard Tournament. Hogwarts housed Beauxbatons and Durmstrung students on this occasion and hosted the event, event of which Harry was one of the protagonists. The boy had been inexplicably selected by the Goblet of Fire as one of the champions, the fourth champion to be exact and due to the strict law he wasn’t allowed to retire. Hermione was extremely concerned about Harry’s safety and health during this time, looking out for him even more than she had done up until then and trying to help as much as she could. She was the only one who believed Harry hadn’t cheated, even Ron was suspicious, creating a rift between the boys. Along with the Triwizard Tournament another secondary event landed at Hogwarts: the Yule Ball, and with it the first skipped heartbeats. Hermione unknowingly attracted the attention of Durmstrung Triwizard Champion and Bulgarian International Quidditch Seeker Viktor Krum, something she could hardly understand and that made act cautiously at first. The Bulgarian Bon Bon, as Rita Skeeter would later described him, sought Hermione out in the Library and appreciated her refusal to act like a fan-girl, so much so that he asked her to the Yule Ball. Hermione accepted and was rather excited and nervous, she took great care that night in fixing her hair and the result certainly paid off. Most were stunned by her appearance, some even jealous – especially when they saw who she had come with. She had only told Ginny, for everyone else seeing the plain bookworm on the arm of an International Quidditch player and Triwizard Champion was quite a shock, especially for a certain ginger-head who had failed to realize Hermione was a girl in time to ask her to the ball – to Hermione’s disappointment, she had secretly hoped Ron would ask her. The two had quite the row in the Common Room later but once again, Ron missed the point.
A new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher had been appointed and after the resignation of Remus Lupin the year prior anyone would have had trouble replacing such an excellent Professor. Mad-Eye Moody, an auror, took the place to Hermione’s dismay and even horror when he broke the rules and demonstrated the Unforgivable Curses in class, bothering Neville greatly. It was later revealed that the man wasn’t the real Mad-Eye but a Death Eater, Barty Crouch Jr, that had been planted in the school to manipulate Harry – quite successfully. In the background a foul woman wearing horn-rimmed glasses lurked, spreading lies and vicious words. Rita Skeeter soon earned herself a place in Hermione’s black list, the journalist wrote scathing articles about how Hermione was toying with two champions and insinuating that she might be brewing Love Potions to obtain results. Hermione found these articles ridiculous but some began to believed them, even receiving hate mail and the cold shoulder from Mrs. Weasley. Hermione vowed to get back at the awful woman and after obsessing for quite some time she figured out Rita Skeeter was an unregistered animagus and trapped her cockroach form in a jar, proceeding to blackmailing her successfully, obtaining that she stopped writing for a whole year. Hermione took great satisfaction in teaching the grown woman a lesson but greater challenges awaited her and her friends. It became clear when Harry returned holding the dead body of Cedric Diggory and claiming Voldemort was back, to everyone’s utter shock and disbelief.
Fifth year started on a gloomy, upsetting note. The Daily Prophet refused to believe Harry’s and Dumbledore’s claims that Voldemort was back, defaming the two and labeling as liars and fools. Unfortunately most students and wizards believed the printed words, accepting that You-Know-Who was back was a too terrifying prospect so most chose denial. However Hermione, Ron and a few others genuinely believed Harry and defended him fiercely despite his boiling anger. Harry was understandably shaken and took to lashing out at his two best-friends in frustration, causing Ron and Hermione to walk on tiptoes around him on occasion. The year began at Grimmauld Place number 12, the headquarters of the renewed Order of the Phoenix, where the teenagers had a chance to eavesdrop –thanks to Fred’s and George’s Extendable Ears – part of the Order’s plans, although nothing really useful. Hermione was rather concerned about Harry – when isnt she? – and secretly worried about the outcome of the hearing while supporting her friend and reading as much as possible about Wizarding Law, something she wasn’t new to after Buckbeak’s condemnation. While staying at the headquarters, both Ron and Hermione received their prefect badges, something that overjoyed Hermione and she took the job very seriously.
A surprise in the form of a sickly pink toad awaited them at Hogwarts. Dolores Umbridge had been appointed by the Minister for Magic himself as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Hermione was one of the first to pick up on the sickening woman’s intentions and when her teaching methods were revealed to be ridiculous and her idea of punishment sadistic and nauseating, Hermione felt she had to do something. That’s how Dumbledore’s Army came to life. Hermione took pride in the successful organization and took great satisfaction in knowing she was undermining Umbridge right under her nose. Hermione resumed some of her activism on behalf of House-elves as well, staying up late to knit misshapen hats she would later conceal beneath rubbish to trick the house-elves into freedom, something Ron and Harry disapproved of. In the meantime the menace Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters represented didn’t fade. Mr Weasley was attacked by Nagini and was saved in time thanks to Harry’s vision, visions that the Headmaster strongly wanted to stop and Hermione agreed, pushing Harry to apply himself more and practice Occlumency to no avail. It was one of Harry’s visions that triggered what would become the Battle in the Department of Mysteries. The boy had a vision of Sirius Black being tortured by You-Know-Who in the Ministry and despite checking through Umbridge’s fireplace they were tricked by Kreacher into believing Sirius indeed wasn’t at Grimmauld Place and after FINALLY giving the old gargoyle what she deserved – or better, letting the Centaurs have that honour- they set off towards London along with Neville, Ginny and Luna despite Harry’s protests. The group barely survived and if they’re all alive it is thanks to the Spells they had learned under Harry’s teaching and the intervention of the Order of the Phoenix, which unfortunately didn’t save Sirius – a man Hermione had grown fond of despite of his reckless ways. The truth was out now, Voldemort was back and not even the Minister could deny it. The Quibbler was no longer the only newspaper claiming it ( after Hermione convinced Rita Skeeter to interview Harry and write an article for said magazine) but the Daily Prophet had to face the truth as well.
