Hair: Once again, because Tonks is a metamorphmagus, she has had a variety of hairstyles, and can change it whenever she wants. For a long time she preferred short, bubble-gum pink hair, specifically during her school days, much to the Hogwart’s staff dismay. Although, it certainly did make her easy to pick out in a crowd, or when misbehaving. On other days, she would spice it up with a shock of purples, a tuft of sky blue, streaks of white. Lately, she’s been leaving her hair a faded mousy brown and a little shorter than shoulder length, in a ragged, choppy cut, trying to give it a little edge, but for the most part it remains dull and lanky. Her hair too, is subject to her emotions, and lately, she just can’t get any motivation to give it any spark.
Eyes: As a metamorphmagus, Tonks has the ability to change the shape, color, and size of her eyes at will. For the most part, she keeps her eyes darker colors, with more of an almond shape and decent size for her face. Lately, her eyes have been alternating between a deep brown and off colored stormy grey, depending on the day, reflecting her current dismay about the situation with Remus. Unless of course she’s entertaining, in which case she is more than happy to change her eyes from extremely large to beady within two seconds flat, and bat off colors such as orange, turquoise, and yellow. Regardless of what her eyes look like that particular day, they always reflect her feelings. Tonks feels it’s a bit of a curse, because though she has great control over her metamorphmagus abilities, her emotions can often affect them, specifically in her eyes. Most of the time, her eyes are twinkling with a hint of mischief, with the idea that she knows something that no one else does, and she’ll be damned if she ever tells. However, currently, her eyes are always a little watery, a little red, and a little empty, as she struggles to convince Remus to accept her love.
Height/Weight: 5’4’’/120 lbs
Distinguishing Marks: For the most part, Tonks leaves her other facial features the same. Her face generally stays heart shaped face with blunted cheekbones, nose soft, slightly rounded and up turned (after all, Tonks has to pay some sort of homage to her heritage, right?). Her lips she keeps slightly plump, because they do seem to be effective that way when she needs to pout—although her pouting rarely works on Mad Eye and occasionally on Remus—still, good to have in her facial arsenal. However, particularly when around kids, Tonks often changes her nose and lips into other, more exciting things, such as snouts and beaks. Tonks has a fair complexion, contrasting with her other, darker colored features, and lately she keeps a few freckles across her nose, for good measure, liking the idea of being ‘spotted’ as her mother calls it. Her eyebrows are slightly thick, and she’s often known to quirk one or the other when she’s surprised, raising both only when she’s absolutely shocked. Currently, she’s more pale than usual, with a haunted look etched into her demeanor.
Build: Overall, Tonks is average for her height. Not quite lean, but of a slender, toned build (which she completely credits to the intense bootcamp that is carefully masked under the name of Auror training), though she retained a few of her curves, particularly in her hips and thighs. Most of the time, her build is hidden beneath clothes of a looser fit.
Style: Style? Tonks does not have style. Tonks has combat boots. When not in her Auror robes, she tends to go very casual; old jeans (patches and rips well earned with time and bouts of

Come get in my way, and get tossed in the lake
Likes:
+ Remus Lupin – Remus, at this point in time, is constantly on her mind. Is it normal to fall in love with a middle aged werewolf? No. But Tonks was always anything but normal. She never followed the path she was supposed to. It was no wonder that her heart skipped a beat when she saw him that the more she talked with him, battled with him, the more she fell in love with him. Remus Lupin was not typical. He was special. He is special. And he doesn’t know it. But she does, and she loves everything about him, every scar, every sorrow, every mistake.
+ Laughing and the sound of laughter – There’s something about laughter that is freeing. Tonks likes to laugh and she loves to hear other people laugh; it’s a sound that has no inhibitions, that is purely representative of someone, distinctive. And it means that there is joy present. People are happy. Tonks likes people to be happy.
+ People – She absolutely loves people. She loves to be around people, talking with people, giggling with people…she is a people person. Because of this, she has a hard time being by herself, quickly getting edgy and bored, needing someone else to be with her, much to the dismay of those closest to her who appreciate time to themselves, which she is reluctant to give.
+ Toast – …Well? Who doesn’t? She likes hers a little burnt around the edges, although whether she has always liked it that way or she developed it out of necessity as she has a terrible habit of burning not only toast but everything she tries to cook, no one knows.
+ Cheering charms – A relatively easy spell, Tonks loves to brandish her wand just a little here and there, annunciate a letter every now and then, and over do the cheering charm just a bit, in order to make people laugh. In fact, she likes to use it as a hex and put people into fits of laughter for hours, especially mean people. A little laughter may just do them wonders, who knows?
+ Pink—Something about pink. Bold and unapologetic. Practically perfect (in every way).
+ Weird Sisters – Tonks has every album and knows every word to every song. Something comforting about the familiar in a world where everything is so rapidly becoming unfamiliar. Sometimes everyone just needs to drown out the world with noise (and a good thrashing).
+ Hedgehogs – Tried to knick one once; second year. Hexed it into a pincushion and slipped it
into her pocket; always wanted a hedgehog for a pet. Unfortunately, McGonagall caught her (weeks worth of detention, blimey) but she still has a soft spot for the little rollie pollie creatures to this day.
+ Giant Squid – Her
+ Earl Grey Tea – A new (&acquired) taste. Not so bad, really. With some cream. And some sugar. And some more cream. And maybe some more sugar. Right, right, definitely not bad. Definitely love that earl grey tea.
Dislikes:
+ Remus Lupin – What kind of arrogant, stupid, git does he think he is? He loves her, damn it, and she knows it. He bloody loves her so he just needs to bloody admit it all ready. He. Is. Driving. Her. Crazy. And…and the thought that…that he might NOT love her…that she just may have fallen in love with a man who does not return that love, is something that not only makes her skin crawl, but makes her wonder how she’s going to go on, how she can recover, if she can possibly just metamorphmagus her heart back into something whole when it feels as if it’s in shreds.
+Serious situations – She just doesn’t know how to handle them. Should she be quiet? Should she try and cheer people up? Should she say something? Should she say nothing? Situations like that unravel her, and more often than not she says something completely inappropriate, or knocks something over, and just manages to make everything completely and utterly worse.
+ Small spaces – Tonks needs space. Lots of space. Just to exist and be she needs space. When forced into small or cramped spaces, it makes her very uncomfortable, partly for fear she will knock something over or someone down, and partly because it just weaves a little bit of anxiety through her stomach, makes her sweat. The thought of being trapped and not being able to spread out, extend her arms, her legs, get the bloody hell out of there, sends shivers down her spine. It doesn’t help that when she is in small spaces and she does bump into something, that Mad Eye yells himself blue in the face.
+ Acid pops – As a child, Tonks, like many other children, had one too many and burned a hole right through her tongue. That experience, at the impressionable age of nine, has kept her from ever having one since. She has no desire to repeat the experience.
+ Pure blood maniacs – I.E. Her charming family (yes, Tonks figures most of the death eaters must be related to her in some way because to be pure blood for so long there had to be some inbreeding going on…a fact she likes to throw around when death eaters are present, just for kicks and to see Mad Eye’s eye twitch, of course). Prejudice and pure blood supremacy is an idea that Tonks absolutely abhors.
+ Silver –Never fond of any of the metals, but silver especially; too resembling of steel; too grey; too dire for her tastes. And now, now that she knows that this particular metal could do particular damage to one particular person, she hates it even more; now, all of her ‘silver’ware is plastic.
+ Cleaning—Really. WHY put it away when you are just going to use it AGAIN ; doesn’t it save time to just LEAVE it out? Clothes on the floor are easier to find than in the closet. Dishes are best left in the sink, especially if you are just going to use that same cereal bowl in the morning. People, people, common sense! Make the bed? S you can… pull down the covers again… in a matter of hours?
+ Cats – One world: Allergic. Second word: Deathly.
+ Diffindo – Death eaters are awfully fond of that spell (especially the daft ones, which means… the vast majority) and Tonks has been caught on the wrong end one—or six—too many times. A good number of her newest scars unsuccessfully blocking the vicious, vicious cuts (skin deep).
+ Cartwheels – Never could do one. Not then and not now. Terribly envious of those who could and can. Something magical about throwing yourself heels over head and wheeling around the courtyard, and yet all of her attempts end the same way: run, jump, THUD &/or CRASH. Parents always surprised she never gave herself a concussion. Madam Pomfery begged to differ.
Strengths: Tonks is a people person. She gets people and she likes people. She has a knack for making friends wherever she goes, and notices when there’s someone lingering on the outside, someone needing a little tug to get involved, and immediately draws them in. After all, the more the merrier! Why leave anyone out? She has an ability to lighten the room and the mood wherever she goes, and a sense of humor to rival even the Weasley twins (or so she’s heard). Because she’s so often with people, she tends to notice things about them, pick up on little cues; she pays attention (to people, not to anything else), and perhaps that’s part of the reason she’s also so good at dueling. Watching the wand helps, but watching the person waving it around is also necessary. Though she doesn’t believe it, Tonks is an exceptional duelist, as many of the Order and Mad Eye himself can attest to, though Tonks swears she’s just lucky. Much of her dueling skills can be attributed to her skills in nonverbal magic, something that came almost natural to her—she figures she never thinks before speaking anyway, her brain and tongue are inexplicitly tied together. Perhaps one of her most prominent strengths is her resilience and ability to stand back up when the world knocks her down, whether literally or emotionally. Nothing, not even the death of loved ones, keeps her down for long, there’s a light inside her that refuses to be snuffed out, though the situation with Remus is certainly threatening it.
Weaknesses: Tonks simply cannot cope effectively. When something happens that is out of her control or that is so painful she can’t comprehend it, she either shuts down or makes jokes about it, and neither response is appreciated by her peers. She has always focused on the good in life and things that make her feel good…when it comes to negative emotion she just can’t bear it and so she often doesn’t. She never truly deals with things, and that’s part of the reason she is so resilient, though it’s bound to catch up with her at some point, un-dealt with feelings always do. Though she does not appear insecure in most aspects of her life, she is insecure about her intelligence and her ability to be an Auror and Order member. In truth, she feels just a little too young and inexperienced, and certainly not bright enough (though the fact that she obtained a status of a full fledge Auror at such a young age contradicts her insecurity) to truly be of any use. She tries to tell herself otherwise, but when she makes a mistake she is incredibly hard on herself and tries very hard for redemption. In her mind, she will always be the affectionately goofy Hufflepuff—a student. It is hard for her to reconcile the fact that she is, in fact, an adult. Tonks is very easily flustered though Auror training has helped her in this respect, at least during battles and missions. Most of the time she can keep a cool head, but sometimes, if she gets overwhelmed, she can get a little reckless and a little messy, tending to go overboard, which only leads to trouble. And, of course, Remus Lupin the only person who could ever, truly and utterly, break her.
Best Memory: Tonks knows that the memory used for a patronus must be one of consistency, that the flutterings of love and the ripples of success are not enough to warrant a strong enough feeling for a patronus. Because of this, she remembers the very first time that Mad Eye acknowledged her as a colleague, although he still swears she’s nothing but a glorified student because of her lack of experience, though she knows deep down she is his favorite protégé. When exactly that happened…she liked to think it was during on battle in particular where she nearly sacrificed herself to save him—loyalty through and through—but he called her stupid and accused her of jeopardizing the entire battle with her wishy washy antics. That day, he told her that they wouldn’t all make it. That she had to deal with it. He did not, in fact, appreciate her going out of her way and out of the plan, to save his life. He said his life wasn’t worth it. Tonks raised her wand, the only time she ever raised her wand to him, and declared dingy old bats like him would die, young bloody screw ups like herself would all become death eaters and the world would, in fact, end. Therefore, if it came to it, she’d stun him if she had to and drag his own eyed body away. He turned his back to her and they fought on, back to back, his declaration that she was a colleague, someone he could trust to, quite literally, have his back. That’s what she thinks of.
Mirror of Erised: If Tonks looked in the mirror, right here, right now, she would see herself, holding hands (okay, okay, snogging) Remus Lupin, the pair of them looking at each other with respect and love…and complete acceptance. Nothing else. No kids running around, no picket fence, just them. Because that’s the short term. It’s all she can think about, all she can handle, all she wants.
Patronus: Upon leaving Hogwarts, Tonks patronus was a baby orangutan, which she credits to the fact that that became her favorite animal after seeing one in a muggle zoo when she was eight (the baby orangutan proceeded to hang upside and spit in adult orangutan’s faces before flitting off). However, just recently her patronus changed form to what others describe as ‘an immense, four legged creature,’ and what she knows to be a wolf, and not just any wolf, but a werewolf.
Boggart: Mad Eye constantly tells Tonks that she needs to be afraid. Afraid of something, of anything, because without fear, she is reckless. It isn’t that she isn’t afraid, because she is. She’s afraid of loved ones dying, of dying herself, fear fills her every time she goes into battle…but it’s not enough. She refuses to let those fears rule her. She could die at any time of anything, anyone could. Death…is not something to fear, it is merely inevitable. Her fears, much like her goals, are short term. At the moment, she fears that Remus doesn’t love her, that he might be telling the truth every time he rejects her…and if that’s the case, she’s not sure what she’ll do. Her biggest constant fear is of being alone. She doesn’t know how to just be with herself very well…the idea of being completely and utterly alone, with no one else around, scares her. She needs people. Incidentally, her feelings towards Acid Pops may (though she vehemently denies it) resemble fear.
So, what does she see when she sees a boggart? Herself. Tonks sees herself. Standing there. Alone. Completely and utterly alone. This suggests that her biggest fear is actually of herself—that she might do or say something to push everyone away, and be left with nothing and no one. Sometimes after ridding a cabinet or whatnot of a boggart, she has the need to find someone as quickly as possible, anyone, just the presence of another body to remind her that she is not alone. That there are others around her.
Dementor: The first time she witnessed someone die. No boom. No. BOOM. A surprisingly (always a surprise, death) |silent| spell. Tonks always felt that there should be something MORE, it was DEATH after all, the ending of LIFE, as in no more breathing or beating or bleeding. Should be some exploding noise, fireworks, screaming, SOMETHING and not NOTHING because death was not NOTHING (never nothing). For murder to be such a quiet affair seemed wrong. To think that two words and green light were the only testament to the murder, to THIS murder, the only witness, made her stomach churn. There should be MORE than that. There should be more. It was a crime. A crime. That was the CRIME. There should be more. But there wasn’t. Dead. Just. Like. That. Tonks gasped {soft shudder of sobs and shakes} again, forcing another mouthful of air down her throat. Dead, and she couldn’t breathe. No. Air. The death, the air knocked out of her lungs, the end; it all seemed like too much at the time, too bloody much, and she would always, always remember it.
Veritaserum: That there may be more BLACK in her BLOOD than she would like; sometimes, she has to really fight some her … darker impulses, and remind herself to stay out of the shadows and in the light. In truth, she fears that maybe, just maybe, you can’t escape genetics (and isn’t insanity inherited?).
Personality:
Quirky & Just A Little Unusual
Tonks is Tonks. Much of the time she is bright, bubbly, and energetic. With so much darkness in the world, Tonks believes it is essential to find an inner light and let it shine…and if others can’t find theirs, then it is her duty to share hers with them. In order to do that, Tonks often tries to use humor and doesn’t mind being the butt of any and all jokes. In social contexts, she is not at all insecure. If people are really laughing at her and not with her, it doesn’t phase her, as long as they are laughing. If people don’t like her, that’s how it goes.
However, sometimes she uses humor in appropriate situations and is trying to learn to curb her desire to do so. Specifically, when something sad has happened--such as the death of a comrade, a loved one being injured, a raid on muggles—trying to deal with her feelings of anger and sadness and seriousness is too much. She doesn’t know how to effectively handle herself when it comes to true and raw emotion. And so, she often tries to mask over the situation with a joke, make light of it with a sarcastic comment, something, anything, to lessen the pain and make it not as real. This tendency is tied to the fact that she never thinks before she speaks. Tonks is an open book and when something begins to bubble in the crevices of her mind, it instantly slips down to her tongue and out of her mouth.
Because Tonks is so focused in the here and now, she has a tendency to become a little eccentric and obsessive about various things, though these infatuations are often short lived. Sometimes, she can get a little too self absorbed, consumed in various things in her life, and this is apparent in her devastation about the situation with Remus (a little fixated on him and his lack of fixation on her). She is easily frustrated with her feelings and inability to deal with her emotions and sometimes she just gives up, becoming just a shadow of herself, because fighting through is often too tough, though she’s slowly becoming better at it. In a sense, it shuts her down completely.
Though Mad Eye would like Tonks to take being an Auror and dueling a bit more seriously, the fact is she takes it incredibly seriously…she just refuses to demonstrate and admit it. When dueling she becomes very tense and focused on the situation, and she takes every single assignment as an Auror and for the Order with the utmost accountability and responsibility. She knows what’s at stake and she knows when it’s time to ‘behave herself.’ She would never put anyone in jeopardy because of her tendency for unprofessionalism. When it’s time to be a professional she becomes a professional. End of story.

Father: Ted Tonks, 42, Department of Magical Transportation, Muggle born
Mother: Andromeda (‘nee Black)Tonks, 41, Homemaker (once Healer), Pureblood
Siblings: None
Others: Sirius Black & The Malfoys & The Lestranges (much to their dismay).
Hometown: Sunbury, United Kingdom
Current Residence: Flat in London, near the entrance to Diagon Alley; easy access for her work at the Ministry and to most of the wizarding world.
History: Tonks was born the only child to Andromeda and Ted Tonks. Within minutes of her birth, it became obvious that she was a metamorphmagus. Her father jokingly told the hospital staff to make sure to keep the ankle band on tight, or they would be taking home the wrong baby. For the first few months, Tonks changed appearances very often, only setting back into her heart shaped face with tufts of mousy brown hair when she slept (the occasional sneeze resulting in a temporary snout). Gradually, as she began to gain control over other functions (bladder, bowel, walking, like any normal toddler) she became able to control her metamorphmagus abilities as well—much to her parents dismay initially—as it was very difficult to take her anywhere when Tonks would threaten to change her hair to bubble gum pink in the middle of the super marker if she didn’t get her way. For that reason alone, for most of her younger years the Tonks family stayed in the magicial world.
Her magical abilities manifested early on, around the age of three, when she couldn’t find her favorite stuffed animal and her transfigured into a look alike. From there on other instances (with several explosions) testified to her status as a wizard. Once she reached the age of seven, she had enough control and enough sense to not change her appearance on a whim. There were still times when she became over emotional that it happened spontaneously, but for the most part that was not the case. So, with a muggle born father, Tonks spent her later childhood divided between the magic of the wizarding world and the magic of the muggle world, both of which held mysteries and excitements around every corner for the ever curious and bubbly child. Her parents adored her, and Ted’s parents as well, and because of that Tonks was a bit spoiled.
It wasn’t until Tonks began Hogwarts that she had any idea of the prejudices of the wizarding world, of the fact that her mother had been disowned for marrying a muggle. In fact, the second she was sorted into Hufflepuff (something she was thrilled about) the whispers began. People, specifically Slytherins, knew who she was, or more importantly, WHAT she was. A half blood. Daughter of the renegade Andromeda who had the audacity to marry a muggle! Really! A good, pure blood, Black women…marry a muggle! And this…this Hufflepuff atrocity…was the result. It was the first time in her life that Tonks encountered people who didn’t like her and not only that, but didn’t like her because of something as stupid as…blood politics. She wrote her mother immediately and her mother wrote back…and at age eleven Tonks was introduced to the darker history of her mother’s side of the family.
It all seemed ridiculous. And that’s what she decided. So Tonks continued through the rest of her years at Hogwarts with little association with those whispering pureblood nutters. Instead, her outgoing personality and general acceptance of anyone and everyone, gained her many friends from nearly all the houses, but mostly Hufflepuff. She got along with just about everyone, and those she didn’t get along with, she confronted, not wanting to leave anything unsettled or anything unsaid. Of course, people learned very quickly not to call her Nymphadora because she had a tendency to respond with a variety of colorful and creative hexes, and slowly but surely she became known by all as simply Tonks (with the exception of her mother, who insisted on calling her Nymphadora, and her father who simply used ‘Dora’). Her professors consistently sent notices home to her parents about her tendency to ‘misbehave’ which mostly included being out after hours, hexing Slytherins, and distracting her classmates with her metamorphmagus abilities. Somehow, she had difficulty staying on track.
Perhaps it was because school came easy to her, much to many of her classmates dismay. In fact, now, when Tonks sees Hermione studying and studying and studying, it makes her head hurt. Unfortunately, smart comes in all forms. Some people have to work at it, and others don’t. Tonks never did. Maybe that’s why she never truly appreciated her classes or her intelligence, and never thought of herself as particularly ‘smart’ despite the fact she got top marks in her OWLS and NEWTS. She graduated with a plethora of friends and acquaintances. Even now, when she runs into anyone from Hogwarts, she can immediately strike up a conversation with them, as if they had been dorm buddies throughout their school years and had just seen each other yesterday.
Because of her top marks and possibly her metamorphmagus abilities, Tonks entered Auror training right out of Hogwarts, much in part to the involvement of one Mad Eye Moody, who for some reason took a particular interest in her. He said he wanted to whip the mischief out of her. Break her. Show her that being an Auror was serious business. A thought that makes her smile to this day. One of them got whipped (though Tonks would never use that term, she has too much respect for Mad Eye, but she doesn’t stop others from using it). Not saying who-o-o. She did not plan on becoming an Auror exactly, and Professor Sprout had not encouraged it, saying it took a lot of discipline, something Tonks had none of. Instead, Tonks and Professor Sprout came up with a variety of crazy ideas, from dragon trainer to curse breaker, all areas where top marks were needed, and where her excessive amount of energy would be put to good use, but that did not require her to have the responsibility that being an Auror would.
However, with the talks of Voldemort rising again and the death eaters on the rise, she felt a need to do something. She had to do something. She was related by blood to some of those nutters! And so she applied for Auror training, fully expecting to be turned down, but Mad Eye saw something in her during her interview and she was accepted. It was a rough three years of constant vigilance. Her desire for humor and knack for fun was not appreciated during the training sessions. It was during these three years that Tonks finally understood that there was a time for fun and games and a time for business. She learned how to be an adult. How to take things seriously. Though, for the most part, the training was easy for her—just more spells, a little more complex, a lot of physical demands (perfect for her massive amount of energy), and disguise and concealment—oh no! She was really worried about that one. Not. No. The only part that tripped her up (no pun intended, of course) was the stealth and tracking portion. She nearly failed, but she was fiercely determined and Mad Eye bloody well wasn’t going to let go of her after all the trouble he went to to practically drag her through the training (according to him) and she managed to finally pass, with the lowest possible marks.
Mad Eye Moody became her role model, and over time, she became his protégé. What he saw in her, she never knew and he’d never say, but she felt that formed some sort of connection, perhaps an understanding of sorts. Tonks raised her wand, the only time she ever raised her wand to him, and declared dingy old bats like him, young bloody screw ups like herself would all become death eaters and the world would, in fact, end. Therefore, if it came to it, she’d stun him if she had to and drag his own eyed body away. In the end, both her and Mad Eye are just a little rough around the edges.
Currently Nymphadora is a full fledged auror of the Ministry and also a member of the Order of the Phoenix, which is her true priority. She takes both Ministry and Order assignments, and sometimes it is difficult to juggle the two. It was after she joined that Order that she met Remus Lupin, and quickly became closer to him (even requesting missions with him, when possible, much to Mad Eye’s disgust). At this point, Remus has rejected her feelings and she is currently wallowing in despair…after all, Tonks had never been rejected by anyone, except pure blood snobs, but they didn’t count. The feeling is overwhelming her and starting to affect not only her metamorphmagus abilities, but her work as well. She just can’t figure out what to do, or how to cope. In this moment, she is defeated.

That… now that was just her luck. Not luck, but HER luck. Throwing hexes left and right and the one that manages to hit is a tickling jinx. Couldn’t have stunned him or anything. Oh no. Spreader of JOY, that Tonks. Next she ought to try a cheering charm (one of her favorites, actually). She did consider it. Tonks, over the years, had become quite talented with cheering charms, able to t W i S t and {amplify} the spell enough to make people almost… PAINFULLY cheerful. Point of tears cheerful. Not so funny cheerful. His laugh caught sharply in her ears, a rather miserable sound weighing in the air. Eyes narrowed. Perhaps he had the old muggle movie villain role down far better than she thought. A cold sound. “Well,” she spoke up, a bit breathless. “That explains it. If my laugh sounded like that I wouldn’t laugh in front of other people either.” Yes, yes, no wonder she had never heard him so much as chuckle before. With a laugh like that there would be no question as to his true allegiance. Damn, damn, damn. If only someone had thought to perform a tickling jinx on the man sooner. If only, if only. About to continue on with the pointless jibes amidst the glow of her butterflies, when Severus lifted his wand.
Butterflies sweeping through the air, only to be silently dispelled, vanishing before her very eyes. Wand lowered momentarily, staring out as the creatures dispersed into tiny, flickering balls of light, the room twinkling as if lit by fireflies, before fading away completely. Something about the scene, about the s H a T t E r E d and S c A t T e R e D butterflies, snagged her heart, a hook slicing through the pliable tissue, sink, sink, sinking, weighing down; drown. Barely a second to register her thoughts before another jet of light split through the air and Tonks slashed her own wand violently through the air, a motion so sudden that it could not have happened with conscious thought: Tonks reacted. Plain & Simple. Words on her lips as if they had been there all along, just waiting for the final act of being spoken: Finite Incantem! Eyes flashed angrily, the spell negated in the air with a deafening c R a C k! the two forces colliding and equal in intent and power; d i s s i p a t e d. Simply, stunning. No pun intended, of course. Punning puns indeed.
"You're wrong," bitterness burning her tone, "I'm not just a silly little girl, not anymore." Silly. Girl. An accurate description, wasn’t it? Always silly, and most definitely a girl. Dismissing her. Tonks hated those words; it meant… it meant that HE did not take HER seriously. Speaking to her as if she were a CHILD. She was not a CHILD. She was WOMAN. She was an AUROR. She was a member of the ORDER. Tonks may be a silly girl, but that was not ALL that she was, and in this moment, right here&now, there was nothing silly about her. Face {de}void of any emotion, she stared blankly at him. Severus would never take her seriously, few ever had (such a silly girl, after all). No one actually believed she was capable of being an Auror. Even Professor Sprout, who had rather liked her in their quality detention time encouraged her to take a less…er, how to put it? how to put it?...a career that required less discipline. No one believed that she could make it through the strict Auror training. No one but Alastor Mad Eye Moody. He took her under his…peg…wooden… leg(?) and kicked her right on through. Missed him. A lass needs her lad and Mad Eye? Forever her lad.
And… (&/or/if) If Mad Eye were here… if Mad Eye were here, he would have done the exact same things she had, except without the falling&PIECES and heart&SLEEVE and emotive&UNSTABLE. So. Yes. Would have done exactly the same. “You’re right,” Tonks shrugged. “You’re absolutely right. It was completely mental of me to think that you are capable of feeling anything after what you’ve done. You… you’re the one that destroyed youself, that leapt head first over the edge and SPLATTERED all over the rocks— there’s really nothing left, is there? Nothing remaining of what must have once been a human being… with a heart… and feelings. You’re dead. I wonder… did you ever care for anyone at all? If so… how unfortunate for them; I’m sure it never did them any good, if it didn’t kill them all together.” Placing a hand over her own heart(chest, she paused for a moment, allowing the familiar beat, beat, beat to consume her. “I’m not particularly fond of sense. Good sense, perfect sense, common sense, oh, there’s sens|i|ble too—but my favorite is sense[less]. Because if what makes sense is what you think makes sense then I’d rather NOT understand. Somehow, I think if I understood… I’d lose a piece of myself. Like you have.” Never. Let. Down. Your. Guard. Tonks slashed her wand across her body.
Deprimo|Impidementa!
Mouthing the words Tonks hurled a powerful gust of wind towards Snape, paired with a spell to throw back enemies, hoping to, quite literally, knock him off his feet. “Incarcerous!” She yelled shortly after, ropes springing from her wind and winding through the air, warping and wrapping in the wind, straight for their mark. Bastard. Bloody bastard. Something inside her clenched, lungs quivering with a silent, rib rattling sob. Spent. “I will willingly embrace ANY emotion, no matter what the consequence, and if it destroys me, then all the better, because I know, I KNOW that at least I FELT something. That I’m really and truly ALIVE.” That’s right. She was alive. For better or for worse, feeling joy or feeling sorrow, the point was (&there was a point) she could FEEL. “Having emotions…FEELING… that’s not a weakness. All of it, the pain and the sadness and the ACHE, it means I’m still human, I’m still alive, still open to the world and everything in it; if I ever… if I ever come to RESENT that, as you do, well… I’ll just remember that I’ll be buried and dead soon enough. I’ll think of you, and how unfortunate you are, how sorry I feel for you, and I will remember to EMBRACE these EMOTIONS. Because it MEANS something, it means I DIED for SOMETHING and SOMEONE , and you? You mean nothing, you will die for nothing and no one.” Hand slid from her heart, falling to her side, breathing slowing. The battle… over. And no one, no one won. Every. Single. One. Lost. “Not a victim… and yet you certainly act like one. So what are you a victim of, then? Circumstance? Right place at the wrong time? Wrong place at the right time? You’re a victim of something. THINGS like you… they aren’t born, they’re made. Monsters.” His heart just a muscle, beat, beat, beat, her heart more than that, bleed, bleed, bleed. So. Much. More..
