Personality:
Minerva is a smart and compassionate woman. She acts strict, but if a student comes to her for help she will offer any assistance that she cane. Minerva cares a great for the students she teaches, but she won't always show it due to her strict composure. Teaching is something that Minerva enjoys. She loves seeing students learn and grow with each passing day, week, month, and year. This puts a smile on her face and she also enjoys watching her students find successful careers.
This woman is dislikes Slytherins. She finds them to be the worst students she has ever had. Of course some pass her class and what-not, but their attitudes cause her to veer away from them. The failing ones don't ask for help, they torment the rest of the students, and they most often don't turn in homework and this infuriates Minerva to no end. Its like these students know what makes her tick.
Quidditch is a sport that Minerva loves to follow. She doesn't announce what team she supports professionally, but she actively shows her support for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Whenever they score she is one of the loudest voices there. She was on the Gryffindor team when she was in school and showing her support for them now makes her really proud.
Minerva doesn't like fighting even from her own House. If ANY student does something wrong from stealing to throwing punches she will take points away. She is more of a tough love kind of professor. She appreciates the students who know this, but still work hard to get through her classes. Minerva doesn't believe in going easy on her students. As the years pass she makes sure that the lessons get harder. This is a test to see who can handle it and who can't.
Minerva hasn't had a good night's sleep since before she started teaching at Hogwarts, but she doesn't care. Her students success is more important to her than a good night's sleep. Though one thing about it is if she is in a particularly bad mood it shows. Her students tend to avoid her more when her mood is more sour than it usually is. So on the rare occasion that she DOES have a good night's sleep it shows both in mood and lessons.
Another dislike is her fellow Professor by the name of Severus Snape. She can't figure him out because one moment he is helping and the next he is a rude, arrogant person. In the end she has given up even TRYING to figure him out and started outright disliking him. Whenever their House teams play together in Quidditch Minerva cheers all the more harder for her team.
She gets along well with most other teachers, but sometimes she can lash out, though not physically. Some teachers she will have a civil conversation with, but those like Severus or Delores she will be tense until she can get away to privacy. Despite her friendship with most teachers and professors, Minerva likes being alone in her office or rooms. There she can think about anything and not be disturbed.

History:
Minerva was born to Robert and Isobel McGonagall on October 4, 1935. From day one Minerva had been showing signs of magic, everything her mother didn't want. For the first four years of her life things went well between Minerva and her family except for the magical mishaps that kept occurring. Minerva's father knew that both his wife and daughter had magical tendencies, but they were not suppose to use it around people like himself so he kept a blind eye.
When Minerva was four her brother, Malcolm, was born. As Minerva started getting older she helped her mother hide the fact that the family was not all normal. Whenever she and her brother inadvertently used magic she would help her mother cover the evidence. Not many people trusted those with magical abilities and Robert would be shunned if anyone found out he was married to a witch.
When Minerva was seven her second brother was born and the last child the family would borne. Minerva grew close to her youngest brother more than she did with Malcolm. Robert Jr. was a compassionate person like Minerva was and he looked up to her. From that young age Minerva did her best to be a good role model for her brothers. Malcolm was a kind person, but he was overly strict and most times got into fights over something small.
The years passed and on Minerva's eleventh birthday, October 4, 1946, she received her Hogwarts letter. Finally! A place where she could use her magic without having to worry and a great way to control the magic. Minerva went to the school much to her mother's envy. Even though Isobel herself went to Hogwarts she could no longer use her magic because of the Statue of Secrecy. Minerva did her best to keep her brothers' magical abilities quiet whenever she was at home. The other times it fell on her mother and father to keep the abilities hidden.
During Minerva's first year at Hogwarts she quickly grasped the basics and found a strong foothold in Transfiguration. Things went by rather normally in her first year. She made some friends, Albus Dumbledore, Poppy Pomfry, and several others as well as some enemies. Over the years her friendships with Albus and Poppy would grow.
During her second year Minerva quickly noticed that the magic was a bit tougher than her first year. Lessons were harder, magic was tougher to learn and new people arrived while old ones graduated and moved on. She began showing students around school so they wouldn't get lost themselves. The headmaster of the time was Professor Dippit. Minerva didn't really like him, but time went on and soon Albus found himself getting ready to become the next Headmaster. He had been the Transfiguration professor during Minerva's time as a student.
Years passed. Minerva learned many things from turning birds into teacups to making patronuses. Minvera was an avid reader and she loved learning. She became Gryffindor Prefect during her fifth year of Hogwarts and Head Girl during her final year. During her final year at Hogwarts things became extremely chaotic. With her final exams approaching she wondered where her life would take her. The studying took almost all of her time and her Head Girl duties the rest.
Minerva found it all unnerving and almost broke down several times, but with the help of Albus and the rest of her friends she managed to get through and pass her exams. With that she graduated from Hogwarts and returned home. Her brothers still had a few years left to go before they graduated. Luckily no one had to hide the magic anymore when at home as they were more controlled with it instead of the random occurrences that normally came with being a witch or wizard.
During her time with her parents she met a muggle man named Dougal McGregor. They soon fell in love and Minerva accepted his proposal of marriage, but after a long drawn out thinking that night she returned to him the next morning and regretted telling him she had to refuse marrying him. Due to the law she could not explain why and she left for London shortly afterwards. Once in London she became a Ministry worker and worked in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
Minerva worked there for two years before she quit and returned home this time before heading back to Hogwarts. Over the years Minerva ran into her old boss, Elphinstone Urquart on several occasions. The two had been fond of each other and because of this Elphinstone proposed to her. Minerva refused because she still loved Dougal. However, this did not stop Elphinstone from proposing several more times, each time Minerva refused.
The first war started when Minerva was 31 years old. When Voldemort came to power she knew that things were going to go downhill fast. She joined the Order of the Phoenix which her friend Albus had founded. She had helped out as much as possible during this critical time and never wavered in her duties for both the order and for Hogwarts.
In 1982 Dougal died and Elphinstone proposed to Minerva again. This time, however, she accepted. Elphinstone was retired at this time, but Minerva had found a good career as Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts. Shortly after they were married Minerva found herself as Head of Gryffindor House as well. Minerva and Elphinstone never had any children, but treated Minerva's nieces and nephews as their own. Tragedy struck in 1985 when Elphinstone was accidentally bitten and died from Tentacula venom.
During her marriage Minerva lived in Hogsmeade, a short distance from the castle, but when Elphinstone died she sold the cottage and returned to her living quarters where she taught. She never married again, but she continued thinking that the students and her nieces and nephews were her "children." She enjoyed teaching and she loved her job despite some of the negatives that came with it.
During her time as teacher she had come across Lily Evans, James Potter, Severus Snape, Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin, and Sirius Black. She also encountered siblings and others associated with these children, but these were the most memorable to Minerva. She especially enjoyed Lily. The red haired girl was a blessing as a student, but when Minerva of her murder she was devastated. Lily and James had been good students and their deaths was something of a shock to her.
She had been there when Harry was placed on the Dursley's doorstep. The only that kept her from taking the child herself was the fact that she knew she would see him again at school. The years passed much as they did before and finally the time came to accept new students into Hogwarts. By this time Minerva was the Transfiguration professor, the Gryffindor Head of House, AND the Deputy Headmistress. These were taking a toll on her, but Minerva never complained.
After weeks of not hearing a response from Harry she and Albus sent Hagrid to collect him. Then, and only then, was Harry allowed to attend Hogwarts. Once Harry entered her classroom the first day she found him to be both a blessing and a pain. He was a good student, but he often lacked the attention needed for the class. She watched as Harry grew up. He met Voldemort in his first year as a ghost head of Professor Quirrel. She KNEW something had been wrong with him!
In Harry's second year he had saved Ginny from the Chamber of Secrets that she herself thought didn't exist. In the third year of Harry's she learned that he had saved Buckbeak and helped Sirius escape. At first she was a little outraged at this, but soon found out that Sirius was not who she thought he was. When Harry's fourth year came around the Triwizard Tournament was brought back. Minerva remembered it from her days at school and remembered the dangers it held and was against its returning for the sake of the students and yes that included the Slytherins.
During this year Harry was placed in the Tournament without his knowledge. Minerva wanted Dumbledore to take Harry out, but everyone was bound to the rules and Harry was forced to compete. Minerva did everything she could to help him through this year. She would not see Harry die over something as stupid as the Triwizard Tournament.
In the end everything sorted itself out, but they did lose a student. Minerva was saddened at the lose of Cedric Diggory and was one of the few who believed Voldemort had returned.
The fifth year was more trying than any other year Minerva had ever done. This year she butted heads with the Inquisitor, Delores Umbridge. This was the year that Minerva protected the Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw students even more. Umbridge favored the Slytherins and therefore Minerva did not need to protect them. Minerva was outraged to hear of Umbridge's medieval detention practices. She would have been ignorant of this had Hermione Granger not come forward.
Finally, Umbridge was sacked and an investigation ensued. Now came Harry's sixth year of Hogwarts and Minerva was VERY interested to see where it went. She did enjoy the boy a great deal, but had to hold back because of the student/teacher role they had, but she knew that Harry looked up to her as well as some of the other Professors at the school.

How Did You Find Us?: From The Legacy Continues
Role Play Sample: Minerva sat in her office. It was late at night and she was grading quizzes from her third year students. The aging woman was exhausted, but she knew she had to get the grading done. Luckily for her she didn't have to wear her robes and was wearing her green nightclothes. This was so she could she blow the candle out and go to bed when she was done grading. Her eyes looked around a few times. Several ghosts had taken refuge in her office to do their own thing and Minerva let them be. She had no problem with the ghosts.
The only sounds she heard were the scratching of her quill and the rain beating down outside. A stormy night, but luckily Minerva's living quarters did not see her outside in the rain. Humming to herself she finished grading the last quiz. Like always there were some good students and some not so good students. Setting the papers to the side she prepared to head to her rooms. Turning to the ghosts she told them they had to leave and so the ghosts left without complaint. Minerva looked at the time. 11 PM. It had taken her three hours to grade the papers. Oh the joys of being a professor.
With a wry smile she took the candle to her rooms and set it on the bedside table. She took down her tightly pinned hair and felt the hair fall past her shoulders like a curtain. It felt good to let down her hair. With a sigh the woman blew out the candle and slid into her warm bed. It was rare that she ever got to bed before midnight and it meant she just might actually get some sleep. Making sure she could be up in enough time for her lessons the next day Minerva fell into a deep slumber.
