Dean watched a yellow butterfly flutter around and occasionally making a stop on the grass and nearby flowers. It was a lousy Saturday of a fall afternoon with no motivation to do Snape’s two page essay and all the other homework that was stacked on his bed up in the Gryffindor boy’s dormitory. He wished he could be that butterfly, and what a simple life he would have. No worries about homework, annoying teachers, girls, or Death Eaters. Well, Dean wasn’t sure about the last two, and put that thought aside before his mind would let itself explore that subject much deeper than necessary. He looked out at the Black Lake and at the mountains behind it. It didn’t seem to him that he had only been at Hogwarts for only a few days and already he was loaded with homework. But sitting on the grass with his sketch book opened on his lap and looking across the lake was a good way for him to escape the stress all the other students seem to be having. Probably a post-summer-vacation-trauma-disorder he thought.
The butterfly had stopped on a flower that was starting to whither. Dean started sketching the butterfly absentmindedly with his yellow coloring pencil. He simply loved sitting there—when he wasn’t with Seamus—where he could be surrounded by nature at ease and be inspired for his next artwork.
He took out his wand and gave it a flick towards his drawing. All of a sudden, the sketched butterfly started moving around the page. He smiled with satisfaction and thinking how Rose, his youngest and most adored half-sister, would react to it if she saw it. Mrs. Thomas encouraged her son not to talk too much about magic and wizard stuff in front of the other children, and certainly no magic was allowed. She was afraid the others would become jealous of what their oldest brother was doing at this special school. Of course, they knew that he was a wizard and general things in the wizarding world like: Dumbledore, Harry Potter, Quidditch, wizard food, the Ministry of Magic, and a few school life stories. Dean occasionally became homesick when he was at Hogwarts, though he was getting use to not having younger children following him around wherever he went. But when he did, he would come to this spot to sketch the scenery he adored so much. This spot always brought him comfort, soothe, and determination when he was stressed or having a very day.
Today he simply wanted embrace and begin the new term with a clear and relaxed mind before he entered the hard, head aching days and nights.

There was nothing like getting detention in the afternoon when you were not the one who had caused the problem in the first place. No you'd opened your mouth to defend someone and stand up to a bully and so you might have punched them in the face and broken their nose but the jerk deserved it for picking on a girl in the first place. Honestly now what did he expect, that the girl would have no back-up, pfft please, Astoria may not have been the nicest girl around but she was far from the meanest girl around the school.
So rather angry she'd stormed out of the school and into the grounds. Her detention would start after the feast and she had no idea what it was she was doing yet so she was not looking forward to it one bit, whoever looked forward to detention? If anyone did then they were truly mad. She simply stomped her way around finding her feet leading her toward the blake lake, how she wished to go swimming in that even if it was freezing cold. She'd often wondered if any students had snuck out and gone skinny dipping? An odd thing to think about she knew but it had crossed her mind before.
Picking up a few rocks she flung them at the water trying to get them to skip like she'd seen some students do, she had only managed it a few times and today she was having no luck as every rock dropped into the lake with a thump, splash and then was gone. Astoria let out a low groan and waved her hands before throwing a rock off to the side with a bit of force behind it before she heard someone and widened her eyes. Had she just hit someone, ah man she didn't want double detention.
Her small feet ran forwards through the trees before she came to notice someone ahead "I am so sor..."
she trailed off as she got closer noticing it to be that strange curly haired boy she'd seen lurking around, he was older than her she knew that much and he was not a Slytherin, dam it what house was he in again? She bit her bottom lip a little "I really am sorry, I didn't think someone was actually out here or I wouldn't have thrown the rock so hard... wait are you ok, did it hit you?" she asked bombarding him with questions as she looked down at him. If the rock didn't hit him then she had nothing to worry about though if it did then he'd simply have to toughen up really. His trail of thought was suddenly interrupted when something hard and sharp hit his back. “What the?” he cried out, dropping his sketch book and whirled around. He heard footsteps running down and their owner came into view. But they were the last person Dean thought of and was taken aback by their sight. There in front of him stood a small dark haired girl with a green tie around her neck. He frowned when he realized that she was a Slytherin, as they were not his favorite group of people. Dean never got along with them, simply hated them for their arrogance and the way they treated him and his friends. She was probably just like the rest of them.
However, when he heard a soft apology and a look of guilt spread across her face, he was surprised and had to accept her apology. Dean gave her a slight grin of assurance and said “It’s alright, no harm done. Just maybe next time aim toward the lake?” He grabbed a palm sized rock near where he was sitting and stood up, making him tower over this girl. He looked out toward the lake, moving his hand with the rock from side to side to side. “I don’t know how to explain it, but I usually toss it like this,” and with that he flicked his hand and the rock flew out toward the lake nicely hitting the water with a splash. He watched as the small rock fell into the water and kept staring at it for a few seconds. When Dean adjusted his leg position a little, a nearby twig snapped and caused him to realize that he was awkwardly standing there with a girl he had never met. “Uh...my name’s Dean, Dean Thomas.” He held out his hand to the small girl awkwardly. The boy she had hit made a noise, called out. It made Astoria ponder if she had remained where she had been would he have even come looking for her or let it pass, in which case she might have gotten away with it… possibly even gotten away with throwing more at him, whoever he was. But that was too late as she appeared before him within moments asking him many questions before seeing the red in his uniform. A Gryffindor… wonderful that was all she needed, to put up with a Gryffindor. It was no secret that the Slytherin and Gryffindor house did not get along especially since Potter came into the school, everyone knew Potter and Malfoy were like sworn enemies always trying it seemed to outdo one another, but she did wonder who hated who more. Did Potter hate Malfoy more or was it the other way around?
She glanced towards the lake and made a small face, she had not been aiming at anything, if she had she’d have gotten him in the back of the head and would have used a larger rock. The thought of commenting on perhaps she’d just use a smooth rock next time crossed her mind, however it was not like this person would understand her sense of humour so she simply gave him a small smile to amuse the guy.
Though his words puzzled her, what was he trying to explain to her exactly? Did she want to pay attention really? She watched the rock hit the water and fall in, wow, yea that was really specially, bravo to him. She had to bite her tongue not to make a sarcastic comment but she was unsure about what he was trying to ‘explain’ here. “I’m sorry, what are you trying to explain?”
she questioned tilting her head a little. She knew about the laws of gravity and basic physics but what did a rock falling into the water have to do with this? Astoria did not know the answer so she simply sat down onto her knees tucking her skirt under her and picked up a rock watching it before looking to the boy again and his hand. Astoria watched his hand for a moment as if unsure what she was supposed to be doing to it or seeing it if was some form of threat or another, before blinking as if coming to realise it was not some nasty monster that would envelop her. “Oh right…” she said quickly and a grabbed his hand shaking it, she was told she had a firm hand shake so she tried to loosen her grip a little, girls were not meant to have firm handshakes they were supposed to have a delicate touch and a small shake. “Am Astoria Greengrass and if you make a joke about how my last name matches my scarf I will drown you in the lake for the mer people to feed off your flesh” she said the last bit all a little seriously as she watched him. Anyone would think she was telling him the truth before she smiled and laughed a little “It’s a joke” she added as she looked back across the lake “But seriously… don’t make fun of my name and I won’t make fun of yours… not that you can make much fun out of Dean Thomas” she added drifting off into her own thoughts it seemed. Of course being caught talking to a Gryffindor was a bad idea all together, Slytherin’s were supposed to hang out with other Slytherin’s it is what is expected of them. Wandering around or being seen near another person in another house was like a sin almost. A stupid one but seen as one none the less. This Dean guy did not seem so bad though… even if he was a Gryffindor. [/blockquote] words ;; 646 ooc ;; you're back ^_^ all excited now[/blockquote]
