Jack Shepherd has spent most of his life as a ‘guest’ on the tropical island they called Paradise; a remote atoll surrounded by impenetrable reefs and accessible only by helicopter. At the Utopia clinic they boast the best psychiatric rehabilitation and palliative care that money can buy. And in Paradise money can buy you anything.
Under the guidance of the brilliant and charming Dr Xian Jackson, the medical staff of Utopia treat some of the world’s richest and some of society’s most disturbed. But is everything in Paradise the way it seems? Shepherd is convinced not and suspects that the ‘guests’ are not the only secrets hidden in Utopia.
For her part, Dr Jackson wants only to help those under her care and has spent many years developing a programme that she hopes one day will revolutionise the field of psychiatry. But Shepherd does not trust her and refuses her help.
So who is the enigmatic Dr Jackson? And why is Shepherd so afraid of Rapture, her controversial new psychiatric therapy? What secrets does Utopia conceal? And why does no ‘guest’ ever seem to get better?
